I Tried the Bilt Neighborhood Cafe in NYC. Here’s My Honest Review.

I’ve had my Bilt credit card for two years.

One of those small “perks” that Bilt has, which until now I’ve never used, comes from the Bilt Neighborhood Cafe in Lower Manhattan.

It opened in January 2025, and I finally made it to Bond St for a coffee.

I even made it on the first of the month, “rent day,” when Bilt cardholders get a free treat.

In this article, I’ll share my honest thoughts on the Bilt Neighborhood Cafe in New York, from someone who got all the perks and someone who’s lived in New York for six years.

What Is the Bilt Neighborhood Cafe?

It’s a coffee shop in NoHo, an area in Lower Manhattan squished between SoHo, the East Village, and Greenwich Village. It’s right near the Broadway Lafayette BDFM and Bleecker St 6 train.

If you didn’t have a Bilt credit card, it would be an unremarkable, standard “boujie” cafe that you’ll find literally hundreds of around the city. (Although the coffee is quite good.)

But since I have a Bilt card, I got some perks.

The Perks for Bilt Card Members

I assumed I would get some ridiculous amount of points.

On the first of the month that’s true.

You get 8 points per dollar any time. That already is a lot. But these aren’t big purchases.

On Rent Day, I got 14 points per dollar. (8 points for neighborhood dining, 3 points for dining, and 3 bonus points because it was the 1st of the month.)

That’s a lot of points.

On the first of the month only, you get a free treat. This changes every month. When I went, I didn’t get a free coffee, just a free treat.

In this case, it was a croissant and churro mixed together, a Catalan treat called a xuixo.

On the first of the month, you get 11 points per dollar.

On all other days, you get 8 points per dollar. That’s still a lot, but these are big purchases, so it’s not worth going too far out of your way for.

Still, 79 points on a purchase of less than six dollars… If I play my cards right on the points redemption, that coffee is at least 30% off, but the way I use points for flights, probably more.

Should You Get There Early On “Rent Day” (The 1st of the Month)?

I’ve heard from Reddit threads that they ran out, so I decided to just start my morning. I got there about five minutes before 8, and there was a line of about 10 people.

However, after the initial rush, it was a slow trickle. In the future, I would guess that it’s safe as long as you go sometime in the morning.

This will depend on how enticing their free offer is.

The Coffee and The Food Were Really Good

Okay, David, but was it any good?

I got a cappuccino and it was excellent. I do wish it could have come in a mug, but they are definitely a “to-go” type of cafe.

Now, I’ve lived in Catalonia, so I had high standards for the xiuxo, and that too was delicious.

For their pastries and sandwiches, Bilt often partners with other restaurants and cafes. This is probably smart for them, as they don’t have to become a bakery, and good for us, because we get delicious treats.

The Prices Aren’t Unreasonable

I paid $5 for a cappuccino, $5.67 after a tip. For Lower Manhattan, that’s the lower end for a cappuccino or latte.

The Space is Beautiful, But Limited Seating

It’s a cool vibe. I do like Bilt’s aesthetic.

There were two high-top seats against the window. I sat and enjoyed my coffee and pastry. Everybody else came and went.

You Could Work There, But It’s Not a Laptop Cafe

While the Bilt Cafe does have free wifi, it’s not really a “work” cafe.

In the warmer months, they have outdoor seating. It’s on Bond St, which is a famously upscale, cobblestone street. It’s calm. So if the weather is good, it would be a good environment.

However, even then, don’t expect to post up here for hours on your laptop. If that’s what you’re looking for, there are dozens of coffee shops within a short walk.

Would I Go Again? Yes. Would I Go Out of My Way Again? No.

I would go again for a pastry or a coffee if I were walking by. However, I don’t think I would go too far out of my again, even though I get a ton of credit points.
