This is my privacy policy and affiliate disclaimer page. It explains how your personal information is collected, used, and protected when you visit or interact with my website.
Advertising Disclosure
The core of my website is a space for me to share ideas. In the quest to make this something which can sustain my living (I’m not there yet!), I have added ads and affiliates links to many of my articles. These ads and links use stuff like cookies.
An affiliate link is a tracked link that goes to another website. If you make a purchase at the website after using my affiliate link, I will receive a commission.
Currently, I have affiliate links through the following partners.
- Bookshop.org. Bookshop is a place to buy books online. It gives proceeds to independent bookstores, which I love.
- Stay22. This is a platform that links to Booking.com, Expedia, and other travel websties automatically for people making hotel or flight reservations.
- TravelPayouts. This is another platform for travel-related affiliate links.
I am also apart of the Journey by Mediavine ad network. You will see ads on my website, which are generative by Mediavine/Journey, not by me, then they pay me for the ads.
(If you find them too invasive, please let me know. I’m trying to strike the right balance.)

Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, WordPress collects the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it.
The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on my site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
How long we retain your data
Suggested text: If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time. I can also see and edit that information. Again, for my website this is just if you leave a comment, I will know whatever info you put in.
What rights you have over your data
If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)
The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies.
